PS5 Restock Tracker for USA, India, and U.K.

PS5 Restock Tracker for USA, India, and U.K.

PlayStation 5 is one of the best-selling consoles by the Japanese giant Sony. Since its launch, it has sold millions, but the stock always falls short in supply, and it has become hard to find it on online and physical stores. The biggest reason behind this is the global chip shortage caused by the pandemic, which has slowed down the manufacturing of new consoles. The resurgence of the new Covid-19 variant has made the situation even worse. Now, whenever the PS5 goes live, it sells out within minutes or even seconds. Fortunately, we compiled the best PS5 restock trackers and keep you updated on where to buy a PlayStation 5 console in the USA, the UK and India.

Why Is There a PS5 Shortage?

Recently, Sony announced that it has reduced its PS5 production target for April 2021 to March 2022 from 16 million to 15 million due to the chip shortage. But the most positive estimates come from AMD, which manufactures chipset for Sony’s PS5. According to AMD’s CEO Lisa Su, from June to September 2022, “it will be possible to go down a video game store or department store to buy a Playstation 5 or an Xbox Series X without it being an impossible task.”

To help ease the pressure on Sony’s production of PS5, the company says it will continue making PS4 this year. PS4, released in 2013, remains a popular option among gamers, selling over 116 million units to date.

Slower production isn’t the only challenge the PS5 is grappling with. Online scalpers and their bots are chocking off the retail supply of the latest console, snatching up units the instant they go live. This creates a supply vacuum, and it has been an ongoing problem since PS5 launched.

PS5 Restocks: The U.S.

Most major retailers restock the PS5 at random times, making it hard to predict when they will be available. In October 2021, Sony opened up a new registration page that allows fans to sign up for a chance to buy the console directly from the company.

When it comes to retail stores, Best Buy has been the most reliable with PS5 restocks in recent weeks, Jan. 5 being the last day it received new stock. Walmart is also another store to watch, having received the last stock only three days ago, on January 13.

Of course, you should also keep an out for restock updates on the other major online stores like Amazon, Target, GameStop, and Target.

Early Access Services to Sign Up for

To increase your chances of getting a hold of the new PS5 console, it's advisable to sign up for a PS5 subscription. Each of the available early-access services is different, depending on the retailer offering it.

Here’s the breakdown of how each service works:

  • Walmart Plus: Walmart charges $13 per month or $98 annually to enroll as a Walmart Plus member. There’s a 15-day free trial to check it out and decide if it's right for you. However, just because as a member you’ll be the first to access the PS5 restock, there’s no guarantee you’ll get it.

  • Amazon Prime: Amazon Prime members give you the best option to buy a PS5. The membership fee is $12.99 per month or $119 per year.

  • Best Buy Totaltech: Occasionally, Best Buy limits access to PS5 restock to Totaltech subscribers, which can be advantageous. However, you have to be willing to pay $200 per year, which is quite high.

  • GameStop PowerUp Rewards Pro: Signing up for this GameStop reward program gives you access to PS5 restocks up to an hour earlier. In some cases, GameStop announces the restock ahead of time or emails subscribers to let them know the restock is coming. It will cost you $15 every year, which also comes with tons of extra perks.

Currently, Walmart Plus seems to be the best service to subscribe to, given that there has been more PS5 restocking at Walmart than at any other store.
