Some things aren't worth skimping on. Your holiday is a time to enjoy no matter the cost. If you're on holiday and you're hating the food, the lumpy bed and your room's location near a busy road, you'll want to escape to your home. That's no one's idea of a great break. You might not be able to afford a night at the Savoy or the Ritz in London, but your budget might stretch to five-star accommodation in some European countries, so don't discount this out of hand.
The Almanac is one of Barcelona's best hotels. It's right in the centre of Barcelona. Sit in the panoramic rooftop bar and you'll feel like you've made the right choice coming to Almanac. The hotel's pool and sun lounge are also major selling points, but this isn't just a place to rest and relax. Food lovers will fall in love with the restaurant Virens, led by Michelin-starred chef Rodrigo de la Calle. And anyone interested in the arts can walk a little over half a mile to visit the Picasso Museum. Sports fans will love that this hotel is just a 15-minute taxi ride away from FC Barcelona's Camp Nou.
You'll find Hotel Indigo Berlin between the Mercedes-Benz Arena and the East Side Gallery, so sports lovers and fans of the arts are just as well catered for in one of Berlin's best five-star hotels. This place is great for business as it has free Wi-Fi, business services and excellent public transport connections throughout Berlin thanks to its proximity to the Warschauer Straße train and underground stations. Enjoy a continental breakfast each morning, and a wide range of local cuisine is served in the evenings.
You can fly from London to Dublin in a little over an hour, so no wonder the Irish capital is a popular choice for weekend breaks as well as summer holidays. To enjoy everything the city has to offer, you'll want to be right in the middle of the action, so the Marlin Hotel is the five-star destination of choice. It's just 450 yards from Dublin Castle and 650 yards from St. Stephen's Green, which means you can visit these places in five to ten minutes. This hotel has a fitness centre, so you'll probably use more energy there than you would making either of those short walks. You get city views in the rooms along with free Wi-Fi and Netflix access.
A city break to London to see the sights or take in a show in the Westend is great no matter where you live in the UK. Earlier we mentioned the Savoy and the Ritz. Those are five-star hotels, but they're at the very top end of the scale, so they won't meet many people's budget. You can stay in five-star luxury in London for as little as £120 per night if you book yourself into Montcalm At Brewery London City. This five-star hotel's located within a 10-minute walk of Barbican Train and Underground Station, and you'll also find the Barbican Centre and Barbican Cinema nearby. On Tripadvisor, this hotel has a Certificate of Excellences as it scores at least a four out of five for location, cleanliness, service and value.
To Consider Before Your Purchase
Don’t discount three or four-star hotels or you’ll miss out on some of Europe’s quirkier hotels.
- If you want five-star luxury but you’re not worried about where you find it, check out unfashionable places, for example Trieste rather than Venice.
- Avoid peak times and the price of that dream five-star room will drop to something a little more manageable.
