Best Men's Winter Coats and Jackets of 2021 - 2022

How many coats do you own? Most men only have a handful of coats. Some only have two – a summer coat and a winter one. A winter coat isn't just about climate and weather. It's also a question of style. A good all-round coat will be one that protects you from the cold and rain, looks great and doesn't hit you hard in the wallet. What type of winter coat do you want for this season 2021 - 2022? A long puffer jacket, a down jacket or a parka? What about a well-insulated hoody? Would that be warm enough for you?

Let's assume you're not living in North Dakota or Alaska. In that case, Arc'teryx's hoody is a great choice for those who keep active outdoors. It has Coreloft insulation which is tucked throughout the clothing. The taffeta outer has a waterproof finish, so you'll stay dry during light rainfall, although it won't be enough to keep water out during a major downfall. This hoody is thin enough to be worn underneath a thick winter coat so it's worth investing in.

The ReNew Long Puffer is a high-quality jacket that's made from ethically-sourced products. It's made from 100 percent recycled polyester and is made of 60 renewed plastic bottles, so you'll be reducing your carbon footprint when you purchase this jacket. It's filled with Primaloft insulation, which is, of course, recycled, and can withstand 15 to 30-degree Fahrenheit temperatures. The jacket is waterproof and comes with lots of practical features including a drawstring hood and large pockets.

This ultra-lightweight jacket is ideal for anyone who spends a lot of time outdoors. It's water and wind-resistant. It's warm thanks to 60-g Primaloft insulation made from 55 percent recycled materials. Even when wet, the jacket retains 98 percent of its warmth. As with the ReNew Long Puffer, the shell is made from 100 percent recycled polyester. The only problem with this jacket is some people will think it's a little too thin to be a winter coat.

Arc'teryx is a company that is among the best in the world at making outdoor gear. This parka jacket is warm thanks to N150p-x GORE-TEX fabric and the two layers of PacLite which keep out rain and snow. The jacket's designed to bolster areas where heat is normally lost, so 750 fill-power goose down has been added to the core and through the sleeves. Synthetic fill has been used under the arms and in the hood for the same reason. This jacket is stylish and comfortable. It's also adaptable as the hood can be removed.

This is a great winter coat that’s priced well and will hold up to rain and wind and snow and sleet. The 15D ripstop nylon it’s made from should hold up well over a number of years, and as you’ve guessed from the name ThermoBall, this is a very warm jacket. You get loads of warmth without the bulk of other jackets as the fibers in this jacket are designed to mimic down. It’s a great all-rounder that performs best in mild winter temperatures of less than 40 degrees.

To Consider Before Your Purchase

Do you need a full winter coat? Would a lighter jacket or a hoody be enough to keep out the cold?

Our Notes

  • Do you need a winter coat? Could you get an all-round coat that’s good for chilly spring days, crisp fall ones, and cold winter ones?
  • If you’re buying for kids, a down jacket that’s toasty and breathable would work best.
