Having a desk pad wasn’t that important when we all worked from the same desk day in day out. Today, when we hot-desk in the office or work part of our week from home, a desk pad makes a lot of sense. It can transform your workspace at home and make that hot desk in the office feel a bit more familiar. There are a couple of things to consider, including the texture the mat’s made from – linoleum, synthetic leather, or vinyl are the most popular – and whether you need it to double as a mouse mat or even a coaster for your coffee.
1 - Grovemade Matte Desk Pad
Let’s start with the best one on the market. If you want a matte desk pad, the elegant and reasonably priced Grovemade is the one to buy. You can get it in several sizes, from small to extra-large, and it comes in navy blue or black. Its natural linoleum surface is highly durable and resists fingerprints. It’s tactile and is comfortable for sustained use.
2 – Amazon Basics Office Desk Pad
Amazon offers a very basic desk pad for $15 that’s definitely the one to buy if you’re on a budget. It’s a one size fits all pad, though, so check if you need to cover 31.5 x 15.8 inches before purchasing. At $15, you could easily cut it down to fit your desk if needed. It’s made from faux leather, so it’ll be durable and will resist spills and splashes well.
3 – Nordik Leather Desk Mat
At $25, the Nordik by Design pad is priced somewhere between the top two desk pads. Its colorful design and convenient cable organizer are enough to warrant the slight uplift in price compared to Amazon’s offering. This pad’s made from water-resistant vegan leather available in blue, black, brown, beige, gray, or orange. The faux-suede finish on the underside is the same no matter what color you buy, but that’s fine because it’s just designed to stop the mat from slipping.
4 – Artistic Clear Antimicrobial Desk Pad
The clear finish on the Artistic Krystal View desk pad is the main attraction. You can place notes or photographs underneath the mat so they can be protected and viewed at any time. The best feature, though, is the permanent antimicrobial tech by Microban, which inhibits the growth of odor and stain-causing germs. You can buy this one for $17.
5 – Pad & Quill Large Leather Desk Pad
The main reason this one’s not ranked higher is the price. How many of us have $200 to spend on a desk pad? This large leather pad measures 26 x 18 inches, and every inch is made up of tactile, high-quality suede with parachute-grade nylon stitching. The craftsmanship would fit the cabin of a luxury car, and some of the detailing is just as refined. You get two pens slots with hand-pounded copper accents. A 25-year warranty protects everything, but we can’t see anyone with 25 years left in their working life able to afford it.
6 – OakyWood Felt & Cork Desk Mat
You’ll need $60 to purchase the OakyWood Felt & Cork Desk Mat, made from natural Merino wool felt. It’s slip-resistant, thanks to a biodegradable cork underside. You can buy a medium-sized pad that measures 24.4 x 11.8-inches or a large pad at 35.4 x 11.8-inches. Each comes with a grey or anthracite felt finish.
7 – Razer Goliathus Extended Chroma Gaming Mousepad
If you need something for work but are also an avid gamer, the Razer Goliathus Extended Chroma Gaming Mousepad is the one to buy. You get a non-slip rubber base and a textured topside that’s great for your gamer mouse. As gamers will already know, the Goliathus Chroma is different from the other mats we’ve featured because it comes with customizable lighting that syncs with the action onscreen. You’ll need $40 to buy this one.
