Cons of Online Dating

Misleading Profiles

Since the aim is to attract people and potentially date them, there are people out there will ill-intentions who might create misleading profiles to prey on innocent people. This is the most common issue with online dating. Therefore, it’s important to keep your guard up and take precautions. Assume nothing from your date until you meet them – always meet in a public place.

Clueless of the Other Person's Personality

Talking via chats is totally different compared to face to face. A person can pretend to be something that they are not and you simply can’t tell their personality by communicating online. Meeting someone in person gives you an idea of who they are and what they are like. It can be boring and time-consuming. At first, you might think of online dating as exciting, but then you get to interact with several people and realize everyone sounds the same and you can't be sure if you like them. Also, sitting in front of a computer and chatting can be boring. Going out and meeting real people helps you to develop your social skills, boost your confidence and helps you to bounce back from rejection.

It’s a Gamble

Not all emails or chats you’ve sent out will be replied to. In fact, three-quarters of your chats might go unanswered. Not forgetting that a good number of people drop off every day and only a few will be open to meeting up for a date. If you’re chatting up a young lady in her 20’s, don’t expect a quick response since she might be having so many chats coming in, and chances that she’ll open yours are slim (unless you know how to stand out.) Weirdos. You never know the shortcomings of the other person behind their computer. Online dating can bring out the weird nature of a person through the things they say like making weird requests and suggestions. And, if you’ve never done anything like that before, it can feel a bit off. Not to mention it can be daunting to initiate a conversation with a total stranger. Luckily, with time, you get used to it. However, it’s important to stick to your morals, reminding yourself that you’ll find a great companion out there.

Geographical Difference

While some dating sites are open to people within a specific geographical location, others are open to the entire world. This can pose language barrier and meeting challenges due to the proximity issues. It doesn’t make sense to date some who’s thousands of miles away where chances of meeting are slim because nobody is willing to fly all the way to meet someone you don’t know well.
